How to melt marshmallows in the microwave – Fondue marshmallows are used to make bar cookies, fondant, icing, candies and other treats. Marshmallows can be melted either in the microwave or the cooker. No matter what method you use, the key is to stir marshmallows frequently. Agitation helps to ensure that they melt smoothly, and prevents the marshmallows from burning. You will also want to add a few tablespoons of water, butter or oil for the marshmallows being melted. This allows the marshmallows to be easily incorporated into the blend of melted marshmallows.

- Microwave Bowl for microwave method
In the microwave
Place the marshmallows in a large microwave bowl. The marshmallows expand when they are heated, so the bowl should be three to four times larger than a number of marshmallows you are melting.
Turn on the microwave oven, set to the high level, for 30 seconds. Take the bowl in the microwave and stir the marshmallows. Scrape any marshmallow stuck to the wall of the bowl and incorporate it into the mixture.
Turn the marshmallows over to the microwave and let it cook for another 30 seconds. Continue the cooking cycle for 30 seconds, then pause to stir, until the marshmallows are smooth and melted.
